Vintage Wolsey white V-neck cardigan, Size L to XL

Based on the combination of the Courtelle fiber and the Royal Warrant layout, this lovely white cardigan most likely dates from the mid-to-late 1960s or the early 1970s. This was an era when high-quality synthetic "easy-care" knits were considered cutting-edge and luxury.

The tag features the Royal Coat of Arms with the text "By Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen." This indicates Wolsey was an official supplier to Queen Elizabeth II. This specific Royal Warrant design was commonly used from the late 1950s through the 1970s. Founded in 1755 in Leicester, Wolsey is famous for its high-quality hosiery and knitwear. They notably provided gear for legendary explorers like Captain Scott and Roald Amundsen.

Courtelle was a premium branded acrylic fiber launched in the UK in the late 1950s. It was highly popular in the 1960s and 70s because it felt as soft as wool but was much easier to wash and held its shape perfectly.

The manniquen in these picture is size S.
