Vintage Brand information: St Michael was created by Marks & Spencer (M&S) in 1928, named in honour of M&S co-founder Michael Marks. The brand started as a “quality mark”: early on it was used on certain goods (not all), but by the 1950s, virtually all items sold by M&S carried the St Michael label — clothing, home goods, even some non-textile items. In 2000, M&S decided to phase out “St Michael” from its main clothing lines. The company rebranded products simply as “Marks & Spencer,” aiming to give the brand a more modern, unified identity.
